since i’ve been in new york, i’ve continually been presented with the names of neighborhoods ( alphabet city, stuytown, murray hill, nolita, etc ) that i had never heard of… and they were always dropped, nonchalantly, as if that’s all i needed to know where the person was talking about, sometimes to the block! well, having been here almost a year now, i can understand how that is possible, but i still am forever trying to track down where some area is… wikipedia to the rescue! check out the awesome listing of neighborhoods with links. here’s the great map as well.

excerpt…
“When a person is in a space with a 10-foot ceiling, they will tend to think more freely, more abstractly,” said Meyers-Levy. “They might process more abstract connections between objects in a room, whereas a person in a room with an 8-foot ceiling will be more likely to focus on specifics.” The research demonstrates that variations in ceiling height can evoke concepts that, in turn, affect how consumers process information.

merlin mann has a good one here: http://www.kungfugrippe.com/ in which you will find masterful quips such as:
Some days I’m Dr. Frankenstein, and some days I’m The Monster, but most days I’m just a dim-witted villager with a torch and a farming tool.[[1.]][]
and see into the moments of our collective cultural past through the eyes of said dim-witted village:
